Box Score

Albany, NY - Lee Reynolds and Kevin Willi each gave strong starting pitching performances and George Kearnes homered twice as Stony Brook (32-14) defeated Albany (14-31) twice Sunday, 6-2 and 4-2, at Varsity Field. The Seawolves swept the season series from the Great Danes and have won nine straight games.

Reynolds started game one and went the distance, allowing one earned run on seven hits. Reynolds did not walk a batter and struck out four, improving to a season-best 7-1 on the season.

With game tied at 2-2, Mike Russo led off the sixth inning with a solo homerun to right field, opening a four-run outburst. Rich Graham followed with a single and Garrett Renner walked. Two batters later, George Kearnes homered for the third time in two days to make the score 6-2. Kearnes ended the four-game set with four homeruns and 12 RBI.

In game two, Ed Kull tied the game at 1-1 with a solo homerun in the fifth and four batters later, Renner singled to left field to bring home Bobby Ziolkowski, giving Stony Brook the lead for good. Kearnes solo homerun in the sixth made it 3-1 and Jimmy McCurdy came home with a double, stolen base and an error by the Great Danes.

Willi allowed a run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Steve Keubler, but got the final out of the sixth. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and struck out two in six innings for his fourth win. Anthony Stutz worked the seventh inning for his fifth save of the year.

The Seawolves close out the regular season at Hofstra on Tuesday and head to the NYSBC conference playoffs next weekend.
