Kearnes Powers Seawolves To 17-8 Victory Over Hofstra

Hempstead, NY -- George Kearnes' grand slam highlighted a nine-run fifth inning as Stony Brook erased a 4-1 deficit and downed Hofstra, 17-8, Tuesday afternoon in the regular season finale. The Seawolves extended their winning streak to 10 games.

It marked the fifth straight win for the Seawolves over the Pride.

Hofstra took a 4-1 lead in the third until the Seawolves exploded in the top of the fifth. The Seawolves loaded the bases on a base hit by Bobby Ziolkowski and on a pair of Hofstra fielding errors with no one out. Garrett Renner singled to left to bring home a run and Alex Trezza walked to make the score 4-3. Kearnes then connected on his 13th homerun of the season - a towering shot that cleared the left field wall. Matt Salmon, Ziolkowski and Rich Graham added RBI singles as Stony Brook built a 10-4 advantage.

Lee Lipschutz' two-run homerun to centerfield in the seventh gave the Seawolves a 16-6 lead, its largest of the game.

Stony Brook heads to CW Post Saturday for the second round of the NYSBC playoffs and will take on either Pace or CW Post at 3:00 p.m.
