OVERVIEW: Stony Brook continues its road trip this week with a pair of games against Ivy League opponents. The Seawolves head to Princeton for a Tuesday night matchup and then travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Cornell on Saturday.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS:B Princeton enters the week with a perfect 3-0 record, 1-0 in Ivy League play, after a 1-0 victory over Ivy League rival Dartmouth on Sunday. Freshman Kristina Fontanez scored the gamewinner for the Tigers who shared the Ivy League title with Dartmouth last season. Fontanez leads the Tigers in scoring with four goals on the year. Catherine Glenn has handled the bulk of the duties in goal in piling up a 3-0 record and a 1.000 save percentage as the Tigers have yet to be scored upon this season.
Cornell comes into the week with a 2-1 record, 1-0 in Ivy League play, after a 1-0 win over Yale on Saturday. The Big Red will play Colgate on Wednesday before the matchup with Stony Brook on Saturday.
LAST YEAR:Princeton defeated Stony Brook, 5-0, at Princeton under the light. Beth Arikian scored in overtime to give SB a 2-1 win over Cornell last fall.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: Friday's tie against New Hampshire marked a first for the Stony Brook women's soccer team. The tie earned them their first point as a member of the America East conference. They will look for their first win in their next conference matchup at home against Hartford on October 4. Stony Brook also scored first in the game, the first time that SB has scored the first goal in any game this season.
BETH STRIKES: Junior midfielder Beth Arikian notched her first goal of the season on Friday against New Hampshire. Coming off a restart from 25-yards out, Arikian hammered the ball into the upper right hand corner which gave the Seawolves a 1-0 lead.
LC FINDS THE NET: Lauren Canino scored Stony Brook's lone goal in the 4-1 loss to Maine, knocking home a rebound off a direct kick. Canino is steadily earning more playing time after recovering from gall bladder surgery on August 7.
SB ADDS ARMY TO SCHEDULE:Due to the two cancelled games back on Sept. 14 and 16, Stony Brook has added Army to its schedule. The Seawolves will take on the Black Knights on Monday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
SERIES RECORDS:Princeton holds a 5-0 series edge after last year's 5-0 victory at Princeton. Cornell owns a 3-1 edge in the all-time series.
CONFERENCE STUFF:Stony Brook currently ranks 10th in the conference . . . Boston University remains in first place . . . Annie Hamel of Maine won Player of the Week honors while Malin Engman earned Rookie of the Week accolades
