Hayley McNallan scored two goals to lead UC-Irvine to a 2-0 win over Stony Brook in the first round of the UCI Nike Invitational Friday night on the campus of UC-Irvine.
McNallan got the Anteaters on the board in the 30th minute when she rifled home a direct kick from 20 yards out over the outstretched hands of Seawolves goalie Lori Nelson to give UCI a 1-0 lead.
McNallan struck again at 50:32 on a beautiful right-footed blast from 25 yards away that found the upper corner of the net to extend the UCI advantage to 2-0. The Seawolves had several good chances but were turned away by UCI netminder Sarah Swancutt who finished with five saves.
Nelson made six saves for the Seawolves who fell to 0-2. Stony Brook is back in action in the second round of the UCI Nike Invitational on Sunday when it faces Cal-State Fullerton. Kick-off is 11 a.m (PST).
