Women's Soccer Signs Four To Begin Play In 2002

Feb. 28, 2002

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook women's soccer coach Susan Ryan has announced the signing of four recruits to begin play with Stony Brook University in the fall of 2002.

"One of our recruiting goals was to obtain quality and quantity," explained Ryan. "We have four student-atheletes that will not only add to the depth of our team but make an immediate impact to our program. I am most excited about their character as people and achievers in all areas of their lives. We are fortunate that we can recruit the kind of top student-athlete that we can be proud of both on and off the field."

Donning the scarlet and grey at Stony Brook next fall will be Cindy Bennett (Canton, Mich./Belleville High School), Lauren Kohn (Port Washington, Wisc./Port Washington High School), Victoria Feliciano (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville High School), and Danielle Lewis (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Stevenson HS).

Bennett, played for the Region II team for the past two years and last spring was selected to travel with the team on their International Tour. A member of the ODP program for the last four years, she starred for the state team in 1998-99 before moving on to the Region II team. This fall, her outstanding play awarded her a trip to the USYS Interregional Competition in Boca Raton, Fla., where the top four ODP U-17 teams in the nation compete.

Bennett played her club ball for the Michigan Hawks which went on to win the Michigan State Cup in 2000 and advance to compete in the national championships. For her efforts, Bennett was named Most Valuable Player of the State Cup title game. Last fall, the Hawks were State Cup runners up. She was also a standout player for Belleville High School where she garnered numerous awards including All-District, All-Region and honorable mention All-State honors.

A 4.0 student at Belleville High School, Bennett chose Stony Brook over Dartmouth, Kentucky and Michigan.

Kohn starred in the net for Port Washington High School in Port Washington, Wisconsin. A three-time All-Conference pick, Kohn was honored as her team's Most Valuable Player for three straight seasons and earned All-Milwaukee Area honors in 2000. Kohn played her club ball for the Milwaukee Nationals which has captured the past two Wisconsin state titles.

Feliciano was a first-team All-Ohio selection as a senior and went on to be selected as the Greater Cleveland Player of the Year last fall. The standout forward helped lead her high school to the Division I state championship in 1998 and played club ball with the Ohio Premier.

Lewis comes to Stony Brook after a standout career as a midfielder/forward with Livonia Stevenson High School in Livonia, Mich. At Livonia, she was a two-time All-Division honorable mention selection before earning All-District honors in 2000. She played her club ball with Bennett as a member of the Michigan Hawks, the same club team that current Seawolf Dana White played for while in high school. White also attended Livonia Stevenson High School.
