Willi Leads Baseball To Fifth Straight Win, 4-2

Stony Brook, NY -- - For the third straight game, Kevin Willi was in complete command. The senior threw seven innings of shutout baseball in leading Stony Brook (6-3) to a 4-2 victory over Monmouth (3-9) Tuesday afternoon at Seawolves Field. It was the fifth straight win for Stony Brook.

RJ Etzel scored on a passed ball in the second to make the score 1-0. The Seawolves tagged on two more in the fifth as Andrew Larsen led off the the inning with a double down the left field line. Lee Lipschutz followed with an RBI single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ed Kull's sacrifice to center field scored Lipschutz to make it 3-0.

Larsen added insurance in seventh with leadoff double again and scored on Dwayne Whitaker's RBI single.

In the meantime, Willi took a perfect game into the sixth inning. With two outs, Fran Rotella blooped a single to right field to break it up.

The Hawks scored in the eighth on Chris Ciminiello's groundout to third that brought home Frank Pilitowski off reliever Dave Mischo.

Lance Koenig led off the ninth with a single to left and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Jamie Szwejkowski relieved Mischo for the Seawolves and got an RBI groundout and a fly out to end the game. It was Szwejkowski's first collegiate save.

Lipschutz, Whitaker and Kull each had and RBI in the game while Larsen scored twice.
