March 9, 2002

Final Stats

Stony Brook, NY -- - Jon Lewis pitched a complete-game six-hitter and RJ Etzel had a pair of RBI in helping Stony Brook (2-3) earn a split with Central Connecticut (3-4) Saturday afternoon at Seawolves Field. Central Connecticut took game one, 7-5, and the Seawolves won game two, 5-2.

Chip Rourke was the difference maker in game one, collecting five RBI and two homeruns, including a grand slam for the Blue Devils. Down 2-0 in the third, CCSU loaded the bases with two outs and Rourke hit a homerun over the left field fence. Kevin Rival made it 5-2 in the sixth with an RBI single.

However, the Seawolves stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ed Kull singled to left field bringing home freshman Andrew Larsen who led off the inning with a double. Following a Dave Mischo single, freshman Matt Devins roped a two-run single to left to tie the game at 5-5.

The Devils won it in the seventh with back-to-back homeruns. Rourke homered to left with one out and Landeen followed almost in the same spot off losing pitcher Jamie Szwejkowski who relieved starter Anthony Stutz in the sixth.

In game two, the Seawolves broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth on a Rich Graham sacrifice fly. They added three more in the sixth as Dwayne Whitaker led off the inning with a solo homerun. Mischo brought home Lee Lipschutz with a sacrifice fly and RJ Etzel earned his second RBI of the day with a single to center that scored Kull to make it 5-1.

Rourke blasted his third homerun of the day in the seventh but it was too little, too late for the Blue Devils.

Jonathan Lewis was outstanding for the Seawolves in earning his first win.
