West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford softball team (17-10-1, 10-6) swept a conference doubleheader with Stony Brook University (20-23-5-11) on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks won game one 4-2 and game two 5-0.

In game one, Stony Brook got on the board first, plating a run on the top of the third on an RBI double by Colleen McCarthy (Sunrise, FL). The Hawks responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles by Liz Borawski (Buffalo, NY) and Kim Schwimmer (Mahopac, NY), with the third run scoring on a Seawolf error. Hartford added one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a Liz Nadeau (Woburn, MA) RBI single, and went on to the 4-1 win. Nadeau, who went two for three with one RBI and one run scored, hurled all seven innings for the Hawks, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five to raise her record to 7-5. Stephanie Poetzsch (East Islip, NY) went the distance for Stony Brook, allowing three earned runs while striking out nine.

In game two, the Hawks' Andi Miller (Severn, MD) pitched a complete game shutout, scattering four hits while striking out five. Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Schwimmer RBI single, and plated two more in the bottom of the third on an RBI fielder's choice by Borawski and an RBI sacrifice fly by Amy Sullivan (Woburn, MA). The Hawks would add two more in the bottom of the sixth on a two RBI single by Bryn Weller (Arnold, MD). Stony Brook would strand eight runners in the game, including four runners in scoring position. Miller raises her record to 6-5 with the win, her third shutout of the season, while Lindsey DeLaRosa (East Moline, IL) would go the distance while taking the loss for Stony Brook, striking out five.
