Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Angela Andrews and Hayley Durham have signed national letters-of-intent to play softball for Stony Brook University in the 2001-02 season, head coach Megan Bryant announced. The two join St. Anthony's pitcher Jessica Paparella, who signed during the fall period.
Both newcomers hail from California. Andrews was a four-year starting pitcher at Serrano High School in Phelan, Calif. This year's team MVP, she compiled a 12-3 record with seven shutouts. In 139 innings pitched, she struck out 179 batters and finished with an ERA of under 1.00. Not only that, she batted .395 with a slugging percentage of .568 and drove in 22 runs. Andrews was named first team All-League two consecutive years and will graduate in the top 10 in her class. She also plays for the Las Vegas Rage Gold in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).
Durham was named both All-League and All-County for San Lorenzo Valley High School in Boulder Creek, Calif. At the plate, she batted .417 with seven doubles, three homeruns and 31 RBI, earning Best Offensive Player accolades. The co-MVP and team co-captain also plays for the San Jose Strikkers Gold in the ASA. Durham, who also played volleyball and soccer for San Lorenzo Valley, was named Goalkeeper of the Year by the Santa Cruz County Athletic League and received honorable mention honors from the San Jose Mercury News.
Stony Brook was 25-27 overall, 10-14 in conference play in the Seawolves' first season as a member of the America East Conference.
