WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Seawolves won their fourth game in a row and claimed their second CAA series win of the year on Saturday when they blanked Monmouth 3-0. Jayci Finch did the honors in the circle, tossing the first complete game shutout of her career.
How It Happened
- Finch got her day started by working around a pair of two-out baserunners in the top of the first, successfully stranding both after punching out the last batter.
- After an RBI single from Marissa Thalassinos gave Stony Brook the lead, Finch again got out of jam with two runners on, this time getting back-to-back K's to end the inning. She would strand three more runners over the next two innings, ending both the third and fourth on strikeouts as well.
- In the top of the fifth, the Seawolves tacked on two more runs as Thalassinos led off the inning with a single and was promptly tripled home by Ella Hayes, who would herself come around to score on the very next at bat thanks to a single from Mia Vannelli.
- Finch retired the side in order in the fifth and the sixth, before running intro trouble in the bottom of the seventh as a hit and an error allowed the first two batters to reach base. Just like in previous innings, though, she managed to keep the Hawks off the board by retiring the final three batters in order to preserve the shutout.
