Five Former Seawolf Baseball Players Experience Success

Aug. 7, 2002

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The following is an update on how former Stony Brook Seawolf baseball players are performing for their respective teams.

Former catcher Craig Ansman currently resides with the Class A Lancaster Jethawks of the California League and minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ansman has appeared in 100 games this season and is enjoying a torrid year at the plate. He is currently the team leader in homeruns with 18 and his .543 slugging percentage is also tops for the Jethawks. Ansman finds himself second on the team in batting average (.305) and hits (114) and his RBI total of 55 is third highest on the squad. Ansman's play at the plate led to a spot on this years All-Star Game held in Wilmington, Del.

Chris Flinn has become a mainstay in the pitching rotation for Class A Charleston Riverdogs of the South Atlantic League and minor league affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Flinn has amassed a 6-6 record in 15 starts this year and has produced impressive overall numbers. In his 101.1 innings of work, Flinn has managed a team leading 95 strikeouts to go along with his 2.75 ERA which is second among the starters. Flinn is the proud owner of two complete games and a shutout, which no other pitcher on the Riverdogs has accomplished this season.

Alex Trezza has appeared in 12 games at first base for Class A Oneonta Tigers of the New York/Penn league and minor league affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Trezza has amassed 12 hits in 34 trips to the plate, producing two doubles. He has also posted a .412 slugging percentage and four RBI in limited action.

Pitcher Anthony Stutz has seen time both as a starter and reliever for the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League. Stutz has appeared in 14 games for the Otters, starting seven. His 2-5 overall record is not indicative of the success he has had on the mound, as he is one of only two pitchers on the Evansville staff that has a complete game. He is currently third on the team in strikeouts with 47 and the opposition is only batting .232 against him in his 56 innings of work. Stutz also has three saves as a reliever.

Gregg Foster has played in 52 games for Class A Lakewood Blueclaws of the South Atlantic League and minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Foster is currently batting .182 in 148 at bats. Six of his 27 hits have been doubles and two have been homeruns. Foster has also swiped six bases during his limited action for the Blueclaws.
