Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Minnesota Twins traded catcher A.J. Pierzynski to the San Francisco Giants for righthanded pitcher and former Stony Brook standout Joe Nathan and two minor leaguers on Friday.
Nathan, 26, went 12-4 with a 2.96 ERA in 78 appearances with San Francisco last season. He led all NL relievers in victories and will likely be used in a setup role with the Twins. In just over two seasons with the Giants, Nathan posted a 24-10 record with a 4.12 ERA. He also made 29 starts during that stretch.
Nathan was drafted in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball Draft in June of 1995 after leading the Seawolves to a 30-8 record and an NCAA tournament appearance.
