Softball Drops Final Two Games At Charleston Southern

March 9, 2003

Final Stats

Charleston, S.C. - The Stony Brook softball team (3-5) fell to Tennessee Tech, 3-0, and Central Florida, 8-3, on the final day of the Charleston Southern Invitational on Sunday.

Against the Golden Eagles, the Seawolves fell behind 1-0 in the third and Tennessee Tech tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning. Jane Stein had a pair of hits, including a double. Angela Andrews took the loss, allowing four hits with one strikeout.

In game two of the day, UCF went ahead 1-0 in the first inning, but the Seawolves grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the third off a two-run homerun by Kristen Brust. The Golden Knights tied the game in the fifth on an RBI double, but fell behind again in the bottom of the sixth when Stein led off the inning with a solo homerun over right center field.

However, that would be the last time Stony Brook would score. With six hits and six runs in the top of the seventh, UCF went ahead for good, winning the game 8-3.

Both Brust and Stein received All-Tournament Team honors.

The Seawolves, who were 1-3 on the weekend, return to action next weekend when they travel to the Cavalier Classic at the University of Virginia.
