Softball Falls Short In Doubleheader With Seton Hall

Charlottesville, Va. - Seton Hall claimed the University of Virginia Cavalier Classic title by going 6-0 over the weekend, capped by 3-2 and 5-3 eight-inning victories over Stony Brook on Sunday.

Christina Shanko earned her third victory over the tournament in the Pirates' 3-2 win in the first game. She struck out 10 batters in the game. Stony Brook tied the game at 2-2 on Stephanie DiBiase's home run in the top of the seventh. Seton Hall's D'arcy Djakalovic drove in Kim DiVincenzo with a two-out single to right center to end the game. DiVincenzo led off the seventh inning with a double.

Seton Hall scored three runs in the top of the eighth for a 5-3 victory over the Seawolves in the second game. Tracy Myhren hit a two-run homer in the eighth to propel Seton Hall. Megan Meyer captured her third win of the tourney to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Stony Brook (3-11) returns to action next weekend when it competes at the George Mason Patriot Classic.
