Bats Keep Ringing in 9-1 Stony Brook Win

March 26, 2003

Final Stats

The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team evened their overall record to 7-7 with a 9-1 victory over the Manhattan College (7-10) baseball team Wednesday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park thanks to big performances at the plate and strong pitching throughout from Jon Lewis.

The Seawolves jumped on the Jaspers early and plated three runs in the top of the first inning. Mike Russo lined an RBI-single to left field to score the first run, and Andrew Larsen followed that up with a two-run homer over the left field fence to give Stony Brook the early edge. The Seawolves broke the game open with a four-run eighth inning to extend their lead to 7-1. Stony Brook tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth for the final margin.

The fast start by the Seawolves bats would be all Stony Brook would need as starter Jon Lewis pitched his way to his first win of 2003, allowing only one run in his seven innings pitched. Lewis allowed six hits and struck out six in the outing and is now 1-1 on the year. Kyle Wirtz (1-3) took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Matt Restivo and Dave Mischo dashed any hope of a Jasper rally in the eight and ninth as they both pitched perfect 1-2-3 innings, with Mischo striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.

Rich Graham enjoyed another productive day, going 3-of-5 at the plate and tallying two RBI on the day. Both Russo and Larsen were 2-of-5 at the dish and each finished with two RBI. Catcher Ed Kull was also 2-of-5 in the outing.

The Seawolves are in action at University Field at Stony Brook tomorrow as they host Marist at 3 p.m.
