Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Hofstra University softball team (15-10) pounded out 27 hits on the afternoon as the Pride swept Stony Brook in a doubleheader at University Field on Thursday.

Hofstra took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one, but Stony Brook (8-15) evened it up in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single from Marissa Servello. However, the Seawolves then went scoreless for the next six innings, while Hofstra got the bats going again in the fifth. Three runs in that inning gave the Pride a 5-2 advantage, and they tacked on two more in each of the final two innings for the final score.

Heather Brousseau was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Tara Ulrich finished 2-4, including a double and a homerun. Ulrich also drove in three runs. Amanda Hallaway was also outstanding with a 3-5 performance.

Stephanie McCarthy collected a pair of hits for the Seawolves, who finished with seven hits compared to 17 for the Pride. Stony Brook also committed three errors.

Sara DeAngelis (5-5) went the distance on the mound, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking none. Angela Andrews (4-9) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs on 13 hits while striking out three in a losing effort. Jessica Paparella pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs on four hits.

The Pride didn't let up in the nightcap, again grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Down 3-0, the Seawolves managed to rally in the fifth, as a two-run triple from Hayley Durham closed the gap to 3-2. But that would be as close as the Seawolves would get.

Hallaway was again impressive with a 4-4 outing, including a homerun, while Ulrich collected a pair of RBI. Durham led Stony Brook with a 2-4 effort.

Alexis Alcantara (5-1) was credited with the win, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one. Paparella (4-6) pitched the first two innings, allowing three runs on five hits to pick up the loss. Amanda Cavitt (0-0) pitched five innings in relief, giving up two runs on five hits.

Stony Brook returns to action this weekend when the Seawolves play host to Vermont on Saturday in their America East Conference opener. First pitch is set for noon.
