Box Score

The Stony Brook baseball team ran its overall record to 15-8 and 6-0 in the America East conference after Sunday's 11-3 and 11-1 wins over the Binghamton Bearcats at University Field. Homeruns by Mike Russo and Jim McCurdy helped pace the Seawolves to the eight-run win in game one and McCurdy was again the man in game two, going 2-for-2 at the plate and collecting a game-high three RBI.

Game one got out to a fast after Garrett Renner scored Rich Graham with his triple to left and Matt Devins brought Renner home for an early two run advantage. The Bearcats would answer with a run in the bottom half when Jay Balack scored Tony Berube.

The same situation played out in the third when the Seawolves scored two thanks to a Mike Russo two-run homer that put the Seawolves ahead 4-1. Binghamton responded with a one-run bottom half when Justin Smucker scored Berube. Stony Brook would take control of the game in the fourth and fifth innings with a five run outburst.

The Brook's Cole Cicatelli started the fourth with a double to right and was brought home when Lee Lipschutz tagged a double to right. Lipschutz would score next after Graham singled. In the fifth, Cicatelli again doubled to center, bringing home Mike Russo who reached on a walk earlier. McCurdy gave the Seawolves a 9-2 advantage with his third homerun on the season. Stony Brook would go on to score two more over the next two and the Bearcats would cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth for a final of 11-3.

Game two presented more action from the Seawolves' bats. Stony Brook produced an eleven run swing that spread over three innings to help clinch their 15th win of the season.

Cicatelli started the second with his third double of the day and scored when McCurdy followed up with a double of his own. McCurdy would give the Seawolves a 2-0 advantage when he scored off of an Ed Kull single to left. Graham started a five-run third with a homer to left and Renner and Russo followed up with a walk each. McCurdy brought them both home with a double to left and he would score later when Isidro Fortuna tripled. The final run of the inning came when Kull tallied his second RBI of the game with his single to left, scoring Fortuna.

Stony Brook would add four more in the fifth, but were unneeded as David Wood pitched a gem in game two. Wood went the distance and only allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out nine. Mark Messina finished with the loss in the second game, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up 10 hits and 11 runs.

The winner in game one was Jon Lewis as he improved his record to 2-1 on the year. Lewis pitched six, scattered six hits for three runs and struck out nine. J.D. Brink tallied the loss after pitching 5.1, giving up nine hits and 10 runs.

Both teams meet tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the final two games of their four game series.
