April 27, 2003

Box Score

The Stony Brook baseball team road the arm of David Wood and the bat of Mike Russo to their 22nd win of the 2003 season by downing Pace University by a score of 7-0 Sunday afternoon in Old Westbury, N.Y. The Seawolves are 22-11 on the season, while Pace falls to 7-31. Wood went the distance, allowing no runs, striking out seven of the 25 batters he faced and walking just one.

Russo put Stony Brook in the drivers seat early by sending a solo-shot, his eighth of the year, over the right field fence in the bottom of the second. The Seawolves would tally two more runs in the inning with Rich Graham bringing Ed Kull home on a dribbler to second and Andrew Larsen made the score 3-0 when he scored Jim McCurdy on a single to left.

Russo continued his hot day at the plate when he doubled in the third. He would later score on a Cole Cicatelli sacrifice fly. Cicatelli would notch his second RBI of the day when he brought Matt Devins home in the fifth with a double to center. The Seawolves would take a 6-0 advantage when Russo again crossed home plate thanks to a Kull floater to left. The final run was added in the sixth when Kevin Solano reached on a walk and proceeded to steal second and third. He would later score on a error by the Pace third baseman for the final of 7-0.

Wood improves to 5-3 on the year and continues to lead the team in wins. Russo finished the day 3-of-3 at the dish with one RBI. Kull was also 3-of-3 with a single RBI.

The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow as they travel back to Old Westbury, N.Y. to play NY Tech at 3 p.m
