Box Score
The Stony Brook baseball team (12-8/4-0) scored a sweep over the Albany Great Danes (6-16/0-4) Sunday thanks big innings at the plate and strong pitching throughout. Stony Brook took game two to start the day after having it postponed last night due to darkness. Rich Graham singled home Kevin Solano to seal that win and the Seawolves jumped on Albany early in game three with a four-run first that the Great Danes could never recover from. Stony Brook took a 5-1 advantage into the bottom half of the sixth of the final game and blew the game open with doubles by Garret Renner and Graham and a homer by Mike Russo.
The game two victory was delayed until Sunday as the two teams were knotted at five. Solano started off what proved to be the deciding eighth inning with a walk and them advanced to second on a balk. Solano then reached third on an error off an Ed Kull hit which set the stage for the game-winning single to right for Graham.
Matt Restivo moved to 3-0 in the win, with Mike Mueller suffering the loss. David Wood pitched six innings for the Seawolves, striking out nine and allowing just one run.
Win three of the series came after the Seawolves tallied four runs in the bottom of the first. Matt Devins would single home Graham and Garrett Renner. Then Russo would bring him home on a double to center. Jim McCurdy would add the fourth run of the inning when he singled home Russo.
The Great Danes pulled to within one in the third when Tony Vallone scored on a wild pitch after doubling and then advancing on a fielders choice, but the Seawolves would then put the game out of reach by scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth off of a Kull double and would go on to add three more for an 8-4 final.
Steven Zydor received the win in the game, pitching 3 1/3, striking out three and allowing only one. Jeff Mazzola was credited with the loss.
The final victory of the series was sealed when the Seawolves tallied five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Brook carried a 5-1 advantage into the sixth, but that was soon pushed to 6-1 when Renner doubled home Isidro Fortuna, just missing a homerun by feet. Devins would then single home Renner and would later score himself as Mike Russo would tally his fifth homerun of the season. The Rally was extended when Graham doubled home Andrew Larsen after he singled.
Paul Carufe was credited with the win after he pitched an impressive six innings in which he struck out eight and allowed only a single run.
The Seawolves are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Seton Hall for a 3:30 p.m. tilt against the Pirates.
