Seawolves Top 30 Wins Sweep Of Hartford

BRISTOL, CT (May 17) - The University of Hartford baseball team fell 5-3 and 14-2 to Stony Brook in an America East doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Muzzy Field.

Stony Brook improved to 30-19 overall and 15-9 in the conference with the sweep. The Seawolves will be the No. 3 seed in the America East championship next weekend. Hartford wrapped up its season 9-34-1 and 7-15 in the conference.

In game one, Stony Brook jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings with the help of homeruns from Cole Cicatelli and David Wood. Hartford answered with a run in the fourth and added two more in the bottom of the sixth but Stony Brook held on for the 5-3 victory.

James Swejkowski (3-2) picked up the win for Stony Brook as he held Hartford to two runs on five hits over five innings. Brian Mascaro (3-8) took the loss for the Hawks in a five-hit complete game outing.

Wood went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer to pace Stony Brook while Ron Acabbo went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for Hartford. Brian Eck also went 2-for-3 in the loss for the Hawks.

In game two, Stony Brook used a nine-run, six-hit rally in the top of the fifth that broke a scoreless tie and gave the Seawolves a 9-0 advantage. Stony Brook added two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to earn the 14-2 victory.

Matt Restivo (6-3) picked up the game two win for the Seawolves as he held the Hawks to one run on three hits with four strikeouts. Kyle Valentine (0-2) suffered the loss for Hartford.

Rich Graham went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer for Stony Brook while Rob Torres added a two-run pinch-hit homer in the sixth. Steve Moyer and Matt Younghans each had two hits apiece for Hartford in the second game.
