Box Score

The Stony Brook baseball team improved their overall record to 25-16 with a 5-3 win over the Hofstra Pride (10-33) Tuesday afternoon at University Field. Cole Cicatelli's bat helped lead the Seawolves to the two-run victory by clocking three RBI on the afternoon that included his sixth homerun of the season.

Stony Brook struck first in the game when they tallied a 2-0 advantage in the bottom half of the third inning. Corey Johnson got the inning started by drawing a walk off Hofstra starter Brendan Smar. Johnson would then advance to third on a Pride error before crossing home on a Cicatelli blast over the leftfield wall to put the Seawolves up 2-0. The Seawolves added another in the fourth when Nick Theoharis scored from third off of a sacrifice fly to right by Kevin Solano.

Hofstra would fight back in the sixth and tie the game at 3-3. Josh Stern got the three-run rally started with a homer to left. David Huth then drew a walk and would advance to second on a JP Wechter double in the gap in left. Thomas Brown would clear the bases and tie the game with his double to left centerfield.

The game remained knotted at three until the bottom of the seventh when pinch-hitter Mike Russo scored a double for the Seawolves and would later score on an error to put Stony Brook ahead 4-3. Cicatelli put The Brook in front 5-3 with his third RBI of the day that scored Matt Devins.

Stephen Zydor was credited with the win, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out two. Smar went the distance for Hofstra and tallied the loss. Smar allowed nine hits, five runs and struck out five.

The Seawolves are back in conference action Saturday as they host America East frontrunner Maine. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
