Former Stony Brook pitcher Chris Flinn was called up to the Orlando Rays,the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, in early August. In three Southern League appearances since joining the Rays, Flinn is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA.
In 17 game starts with the Single-A Bakersfield Blaze, Flinn led the team in wins with an 8-6 mark and a 4.57 ERA. He fanned 76 batters in just over 100 innings piched.
Flinn is the second former Stony Brook diamondman to move up through the minor leagues this summer. Craig Ansman, a standout catcher for SBU from 1997-2000, enjoyed an all-star first half of the season with the Double-A El Paso Diablos before being called up to the Triple-A Tucson Sidewinders last month. Ansman is a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
