Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Former Stony Brook baseball standout Craig Ansman was was one of 12 non-roster invitees to the Arizona Diamondbacks training camp when pitchers and catchers report on February 21. The breakdown of invitees includes four pitchers, four catchers, one infielder and three outfielders. In addition, the Diamondbacks traded catcher Brad Cresse to the Montreal Expos, opening the door for Ansman to move to the next level in his career.
Ansman spent last season with the Diamondbacks double-A affiliate El Paso, hitting .324 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI. He smacked a solo home run in last year's Texas League All-Star game and has steadily risen through the Arizona organization in four seasons since being signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2000.
Ansman starred for the Seawolves from 1997-2000 and ranks second all-time in SBU history in home runs (48) and third in hits (189), runs batted in (163) and runs scored (145).
