Box Score

New York, N.Y. - Mitchell Beauford helped lead the late rally, scoring 16 of his game-high 27 points, leading four Seawolves in double figures as Stony Brook pulled out a late second half victory over Columbia 77-73, Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 2-1, while the Lions fall to 3-1.

Stony Brook trailed until the last six minutes when Cori Spencer saved the Seawolves from a thirty second violation, sinking a jumper from beyond the arc and sparking the Seawolves to chip away at Columbia's lead.

On a pass from Beauford, Bobby Santiago banked in a deep three-pointer with 2:12 to go to put the Seawolves ahead 72-71, and they did not trail for the rest of the game. Santiago grabbed a crucial rebound on a faulty Lions' three to force a foul. He stepped to the line, sinking two and giving the Seawolves a 74-71 advantage. Antwan Hardy came up big for the Seawolves in the rally, making three free throws to give Stony Brook the final margin of victory.

Hardy finished with 17 points, while Santiago had 10, dishing out five assists. Spencer finished the game with 11 points and was flawless from the foul line in the second half.

The Seawolves are back in action on Tuesday in Jamaica, N.Y., for a 7:00 p.m. clash with the Red Storm of St. John's University.
