Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's late come-back attempt came up short as Vermont held on for a 67-60 victory over the Seawolves in an America East men's basketball game on Wednesday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. Stony Brook has now lost six in a row to fall to 6-16 on the season and 3-10 in league play, while the Catamounts won their school-record 13th straight and improved to 16-5 and 12-0.

Both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second half, but Vermont took a 58-53 lead after Davin Hehn drained a three-pointer with 3:36 on the clock. D.J. Munir answered with a basket and, after the Catamounts missed a jumper and a pair of free throws, had the chance to pull SB within one, but missed the front end of a one-and-one. Taylor Coppenrath followed with a layup to stretch UVM's lead to 60-55 with 1:54 to play.

Down four with 53 seconds to play, Mitchell Beauford hit a jumper to cut the lead to 61-59, but Matt Sheftic answered with a layup to put UVM back up by four. After two Seawolves' misses, Germaine Njila slammed a break-away dunk to give the Catamounts the six-point edge at 65-59 with 34 seconds to go. Njila added a pair of free throws with two seconds to go to put the game out of reach.

The Seawolves openend the first six minutes of the game on an 11-2 run fueled by four points apiece from Beauford and Munir, while UVM missed eight of its first nine shots. The Catamounts rebounded by connecting on their next four shots, including two three-pointers by T.J. Sorrentine, to pull within four at 16-12 at the 12:05 mark.

With the visitors within two, Mike Konopka hit two free throws to make it 29-25 at 4:42, but Sorrentine and Alex Jensen hit back-to-back three's to give UVM its first lead of the night, 31-29. The Seawolves responded with a three-pointer by Hendrik Feist and a pair of free throws by Mike Popoko to take a 34-31 lead at the half.

Munir finished with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Cori Spencer tied a season-high with 12 rebounds and Beauford chipped in 13 points.

Coppenrath led all scorers with 21 points and added seven rebounds. Sorrentine chipped in with 15 points for the Catamounts.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday when they host Hartford beginning at 2:00 p.m.
