Binghamton Edges Men's Hoops 64-57

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Binghamton used a 5-0 spurt late in the game to pull away from Stony Brook as the Bearcats topped the Seawolves 64-57 on Sunday afternoon at the SBU Sports Complex. The loss snapped Stony Brook's two-game winning streak and dropped the Seawolves to 8-17 overall and 5-11 in America East play, while the Bearcats improved to 13-14 and 9-7.

Tied at 55 with 3:47 to play, Binghamton used back-to-back baskets by Nick Billings and Billy Williams and a free throw by Sebastian Hermenier to jump ahead 60-55 with 27 seconds to play. Mike Konopka hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead back to three with 16 seconds on the clock, but Brandon Carter sank two free throws and Troy Hailey connected on a layup off a Carter steal seconds later to put the game out of reach.

The Seawolves did not score a field goal in the final six minutes of the game as all six of their points in the final minutes came off of free throws.

Trailing by two just under nine minutes into the game, SB went on a 10-3 run fueled by back-to-back three-pointers by Mitchell Beauford and Konopka to take a 22-17 lead with 6:41 to go in the half. The Bearcats scored five straight points, all off of free throws, to tie it at 22 at the 4:16 mark. After Binghamton took a one-point lead three minutes later, Hendrick Feist dranied a three to make it 31-29 with 38 seconds to go, but Troy Hailey's layup tied it at 31 at the half.

Beauford led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, while Munir chipped in 14 points.

Hailey led four Bearcats in double-figures with 14 points. Billings added 12 points, 11 coming in final 13:08 of the game, and three blocks.

The game served as the last home contest for Stony Brook seniors Munir, Konopka, J.B. Bennett and Dan Rickard.

The Seawolves return to action on Thursday when they travel to take on Boston University at 7:00 p.m.
