Game 1
Game 2
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Breanne Nasti hit three home runs, including a grand slam in Game 2, to lead Buffalo to a double header sweep of Stony Brook on Thursday afternoon at University Field. UB won the first game 9-3 before taking the nightcap 10-1. Jane Stein extended her hitting streak to 14 games for SB.
With the losses, the Seawolves fell to 20-25 on the season, while the Bulls improved to 17-19.
In Game 1, Stony Brook took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a lead off homer by Hayley Durham, her 10th of the season. Buffalo responded with a two-out rally in the third as Mary Russell stole home on the front end of a double steal and Nasti crushed a two-run homer to give UB a 3-1 edge.
The Bulls blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning fueled by an RBI double by Nasti and a two-run double by Melissa Pace to make it 8-1. SB cut the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Kristen Brust and an RBI ground out by Marissa Servello, but that was as close as they could get.
Durham went 2-for-3 while Stein added a pair of hits and a run in the loss. Angela Andrews (13-16) took the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits over four innings of work.
In Game 2, Nasti's solo homer in the top of the first gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Bulls later put the game away after taking a 7-0 lead with a six-run sixth behind Nasti's grand slam.
Stony Brook scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when freshman Margaret Blair smacked her first career home run over the left field wall.
Sarah Hoffman (7-8) was charged with the loss after allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings.
The Seawolves return to action on Saturday and Sunday when they host Boston University.
