The Stony Brook baseball team will travel to Kinston, N.C. to face East Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Regional Baseball Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. The Seawolves will face ECU at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Grainger Stadium, home of the Kinston Indians, a single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
Stony Brook (29-25) received an automatic bid to the 64 team field by winning the America East Championship and will be the No. 4 seed at the NCAA Regional site. The Seawolves will face the East Carolina Pirates (48-11), who are ranked No. 7 nationally and are the top seed at the regional site. No. 2 seeded Tennessee and No. 3 UNC-Wilmington round out the Kinston Regional and will face each other at 3 p.m. on Friday.
Stony Brook is making its first ever appearance in the double-elimination NCAA tournament.
The NCAA Kinston Regional will be held Friday through Sunday, June 4-6, at Grainger Stadium. Game times are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's championship game is slated for 1 p.m., with a second game to follow, if necessary, 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
