Box Score

South Orange, N.J. - Senior Matt Cuttruff went 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI as Seton Hall snapped Stony Brook's six-game winning streak in a 12-6 win Thursday afternoon. Cuttruff enjoyed his first career five-hit game and scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the eighth after the Seawolves rallied from a five-run deficit to tie the game, 6-6. The loss dropped SB to 21-20.

The Pirates broke open a 6-6 game with six runs, only one earned, in the eighth. Cuttruff led off the inning with a double to left field and scored one batter later on Zach Schwitzky's single to give SHU a 7-6 lead. Joey Scott hit an innocent grounder to the pitcher that would have ended the inning, but a throwing error allowed one run to score and opened the door for a six-run inning that doomed the Seawolves.

Stony Brook managed to tie the game at 6-6 with five runs in the eighth. Nick Theoharis drove in two runs on a bases-loaded single and Dave Mischo cleared the bases with a three-run home run to tie the game.

The Pirates scored three runs in the fourth to build a comfortable 5-1 lead. Schwitzky connected for his first home run of the year driving in two runs and Anthony Seratelli stole home after Brandon Cohen got caught in a run down between first and second base. Chris Fulda drove in Scott on a sacrifice fly in the seventh to push the lead to 6-1.

Matt Devins went 3-for-3 and Andrew Larsen was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Matt Restivo took the loss for Stony Brook after allowing three runs in one inning of work.

Stony Brook is back in action this weekend when it heads north for a three-game set with Maine beginning on Saturday.
