Vestal, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team split a doubleheader with Binghamton in America East softball action Saturday afternoon. Angela Andrews tossed a six-hitter to lead Stony Brook to a 4-2 win in Game 1, but the Bearcats rallied from a 3-0 deficit in Game 2 to post a 7-3 win. The split moves SB's record to 28-30 overall, 12-7 in conference play.

In the first game, the Seawolves got all the runs they would need in the top of the second inning. They drew a pair of bases-loaded walks and got RBI singles from sophomore shortstop Laura Bradford and sophomore third baseman Hayley Durham to go ahead 4-0. Binghamton got a run back in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Marybeth Yerdon.

The Bearcats rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-out double by sophomore shortstop Rose Barre. She was singled home by junior left fielder Marisa DeStasio to cut the margin to 4-2 but Andrews (18-18) got the final out of the inning to secure the win. Kristen Brust was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Stony Brook quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, courtesy of a three-run home run by Durham. The Bearcats got a run back in the bottom of the third inning when Chellis singled home DeStasio. Yerdon hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring Binghamton to within 3-2.

The key inning, however, was the bottom of the sixth as the Bearcats erupted for five runs. Barre tied the game on a sacrifice fly and one batter later, DeStasio singled home the go ahead run. After the Bearcats stretched the lead to 5-3, Chellis ended the scoring with a two-run home run to left center field. It was her sixth round tripper of the season.

Senior pitcher Michelle Weeks got the win, improving her record to 7-10. Freshman Sarah Hoffman took the loss, dropping her record to 10-12. Durham collected two more hits and finished with four RBI on the day.

Stony Brook wraps up the weekend series with Binghamton Sunday morning. First pitch is 11 a.m.
