Joe Nathan Receives AL All-Star Invitation

July 5, 2004

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Minnesota Twins closer and former Stony Brook standout Joe Nathan received his first invitation to the American League All-Star Team, as announced by Major League Baseball on Sunday. The right-hander was named as the Twins lone representative to the American League roster for the 75th All-Star game July 13 at Houston's Minute Maid Park.

In his first season with Minnesota, Nathan has thrived as the Twins' closer, converting 23 of his 24 save opportunities and ranking third in the American League in saves. Nathan has posted a 1.19 ERA in 36 appearances this season and strung together 20 straight appearances from April 14 to June 4 without allowing a run.

"It's a good feeling," Nathan said. "It's going to be a lot of fun going over there and being around that atmosphere. To be on a team with players of that caliber, I think it's going to be an experience."
