Vermont Hands Men's Basketball 76-59 Defeat

Stony Brook, N.Y. - T.J. Sorrentine scored a game-high 31 points and Taylor Coppenrath added 22 to lead Vermont to a 76-59 win over Stony Brook in America East action Wednesday night. The loss drops Stony Brook to 6-8, 1-4 in conference play while Vermont improved to 10-3, 5-0.

Leading 37-29 at the break, the Catamounts used a 15-4 run over the first six minutes of the second half to take a commanding 52-33 lead. Coppenrath scored two layups during the decisive run to become the ninth player in conference history to reach the 2,000-point plateau.

Stony Brook could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

The Seawolves jumped out to an early 8-0 lead behind four points from Jairus McCollum. Trailing 14-6, Vermont went on an 11-0 spurt and took its first lead on a Sorrentine layup at 9:38 that put the Catamounts ahead 15-14. The Seawolves fought back to retake the lead at 25-24 on an Antwan Hardy trey with 6:07 remaining in the half. Vermont then closed the half with a 15-4 run with Coppenrath and Sorrentine combining for 13 points during that stretch.

McCollum finished with a team-high 14 points while Bobby Santiago chipped in with 13. Hardy and Cori Spencer each totaled 10.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they host Hartford. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
