Box Score

Orange, N.J. - The Stony Brook pitching staff continued its strong start as four pitchers combined to allow just three hits in a 3-2 victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday afternoon in Orange, N.J. With the win, the Seawolves even their record at 5-5 on the year, while Seton Hall falls to 3-7.

Seton Hall jumped on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead, but reliever Brian Murtagh kept the Pirates off the board until the Seawolves responded with a pair runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Andrew Larsen drew a one-out walk and then moved to second when a failed pickoff attempt resulted in an error. He later scored on Matt Devins' double to leftfield. Nick Theoharis put the Seawolves on top for good when he singled Devins home two batters later to give SB a 2-1 lead.

The Seawolves added an insurance in the eighth after Larsen singled and moved to third after a single and a hit batter. He gave SBU a 3-1 lead when he scored on a wild pitch. Seton Hall tallied a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Nick Abel came in to throw a perfect ninth inning to record his second save of the season.

Murtagh was strong in relief for SBU, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one unearned run on two hits with six strikeouts and one walk to pick up his first win of the season. Larsen scored two runs for the Brook while Devins drove in one run and scored another.

The Seawolves are back in action this weekend when they travel to UC Irvine to play in the OCYSF Tournament versus Irvine, USC and Nevada.
