Kristen Brust drove in nine runners on the day, including seven in the opener, as Stony Brook earned a double header split at Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday afternoon. The Seawolves (9-14) picked up a 7-2 victory in Game 1, while falling 3-2 in eight innings vs. the Knights (3-9) in the nightcap.
Trailing 2-0 in Game 1, SB got on the board in the sixth inning as Jane Stein singled to left field, Rachael Vogl reached base on an error and Brust hit a three-run shot to give Stony Brook a 3-2 lead.
Brust struck again in her next at bat in the seventh, belting a grand slam to give the Seawolves a 7-2 victory.
Sarah Hoffman picked up her third straight win, tossing a one-hitter and allowing one earned run over seven innings of work. Jennifer Buehler took the loss after allowing seven runs while striking out nine and walking three.
Brust finished the game 2-for-4 while Stein went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Brust continued her offensive breakout in the second game, notching her third home run of the day in the fourth inning to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead.
The Knights tied it up in the bottom of the inning, on an RBI single by Jessi Potter.
The game went to an international tiebreaker in the eighth inning as Stein was placed on second and later scored on an RBI single to left field by Brust. The Knights then forced a double play to get out of the inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Holly Jones began on second base and later scored on an error, while Erin Mills singled and came around to score on a passed ball to give the Knights the win.
Christina Voth took the loss for the Seawolves, scattering five hits over seven innings while striking out a career-high eight batters. Ashley Buchanan earned her first win of the season, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out two while allowing no earned runs.
The Seawolves open America East play when they host Vermont this weekend.
