Softball Falls To UAlbany, 8-0

Albany, N.Y. - Center fielder Leslie Busch hit her first career home run in the bottom of the fifth, to highlight an eight-run fifth inning as UAlbany defeated Stony Brook, 8-0, in America East Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep.

UAlbany (22-8, AE 9-1) took a 1-0 lead when Stony Brook (14-24, AE 5-5) catcher Margaret Blair dropped the ball when applying the tag to pinch-runner Danielle Buyea, allowing Buyea to score. Catcher Ali Meacham gave the Great Danes a 2-0 edge on a run-scoring single to right field. Busch then hit a two-run shot over the right-center field wall to put her team up 4-0. Second baseman Katrina Dunning gave UAlbany a 7-0 lead on a two-run single up the middle. Junior right fielder Julie Gannon ended the game on a RBI single that scored Dunning.

Junior pitcher Amanda Morin tossed her fourth one-hitter of the season, improving to 9-1. She struck out four batters and pitched to the minimum in four of the five frames. The only hit Morin allowed was a fifth-inning leadoff single by Kristen Brust. For the Seawolves, Sarah Hoffman took the loss and falls to 8-8 on the campaign. She allowed seven hits and five runs, of which three were earned.

Gannon and first baseman Ashley Rios went 2-for-3 for the Great Danes in the contest. Dunning and Busch each had two RBI for UAlbany.
