Boston, Mass. - Ashlee Freeman and Jenna Grapensteter combined on a four-hitter as Boston University topped Stony Brook 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at BU Softball Field. With the win, the Terriers improved to 21-16-1 overall and 10-4 in America East, while the Seawolves dropped to 19-29 and 9-7.

The Seawolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Kristen Brust hit a solo home run to left centerfield.

BU answered back in the bottom of the inning as Jamie Haas and Brandi Shields led off with back-to-back singles, both runners moving up a base on a throwing error by SB's Suzanne Turek. Chiya Louie drove both runners in with a two-run double to the right centerfield gap to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead. Louie advanced to third on a fly out by DeKenya Williams and scored on a squeeze bunt by Liz Alley and BU led 3-1.

The Terriers added a run in the bottom of the sixth as Ashlee Freeman drew a two-out walk and scored all the way from first on a double to left center by Christy King to make it 4-1.

Freeman (10-8) earned the victory on the mound, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three and walking one over five innings of work. Jenna Grapensteter came on in the sixth, striking out three of the six batters she faced while not allowing a hit over two innings.

Sarah Hoffman (10-11) took the loss, allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking one over six innings.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon.
