Game 1
Game 2

New Rochelle, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team dropped a pair of games at Iona on Tuesday afternoon, falling 5-4 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap. With the losses, the Seawolves fell to 10-17 on the season, while the Gaels improved to 14-8.

In Game 1, Iona picked up single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.

The Seawolves responded in the top of the third inning as Ashley Westphal led off with her first career home run. Jane Stein followed with a single, and moved to third on an error by Iona's Alexis Garbowski on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Rachael Vogl. That brought up Kristen Brust, and she took an 0-1 pitch over the left center field fence for her 10th home run of the season to give SB a 4-2 lead.

The Gaels rallied back in the fifth, tying the game at four runs a piece on a two-run homer by Liz Hammel. Iona struck again in the bottom of the seventh as Hammel led off with a double and came around to score on a fielder's choice to give the Gaels the victory.

Angela Andrews (4-11) came on in the bottom of the sixth in relief of Christina Voth to take the loss. Voth allowed four runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings of work. Alison Higgs earned the win for Iona, allowing no runs and just one hit in five innings of relief.

In the nightcap, Westphal's second homer of the day was all the offense Stony Brook could manage as the Seawolves fell 3-1.

Iona took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a two-run homer by Alicia Lanzieri and added another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Hammel.

Andrews took her second loss of the day, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven. Becky Riccitelli (7-1) earned the victory after allowing one run on two hits while striking out eight over four innings.

Westphal finished the day 3-for-5 with two home runs to lead SB at the plate.

The Seawolves are back in action on Thursday when they host St. Peter's for a double header beginning at 2:00 p.m.
