Game 2

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sarah Hoffman won her sixth straight decision in a 2-1 Game 1 victory as the Stony Brook softball team earned a double header split with St. Peter's on Thursday afternoon. The Seawolves (11-18) dropped the nightcap 1-0.

In the opener, SPC (8-15) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Nikki Melchiorre. Hoffman managed to keep the visitors scoreless the rest of the way despite giving up 11 hits in the game.

The Seawolves answered back in the bottom of the second as Hayley Durham led off the inning with a solo home run over the right field wall to tie the game at one.

The Peahens threatened in the bottom of the sixth when, with runners on first and second, Jessica Gonzalez smacked a two-out single to center, but Jane Stein threw Stacey Spell out at the plate to end the inning.

SB scored what would be the game-winning run in the sixth as Marissa Servello drove in Ashley Westphal with a single to make it 2-1.

Hoffman allowed one run on 11 hits while striking out two and walking none to move to 6-3 on the season. Michelle Bair (3-8) took the loss after surrendering two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

Servello finished 2-for-3 with the game-winning RBI.

In the nightcap, Michelle Casares led off the top of the fourth with a triple to right field and scored on a ground out by Jessica Gonzalez. That was the only run the Peahens would need to earn the 1-0 victory.

Angela Andrews (4-12) took the loss, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out four and walking none over seven innings. Robin Freels (3-3) picked up the win after allowing three hits and four walks while striking out three.

The Seawolves return to action this weekend for a three-game America East series with Binghamton beginning on Saturday at noon.
