Box Score

Bristol, Conn. - Stony Brook and Hartford split an America East baseball doubleheader at Muzzy Field on Sunday. The Seawolves won Game 1, 4-3 in 10-innings before being one-hit to fall 2-0 in the nightcap. Stony Brook moved to 17-22 overall, 5-6 in the America East while Hartford moved to 6-19 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

In game one, Stony Brook led 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Hartford pushed across a two-out run on an RBI single by Steve Moyer. The Hawks tied the score 3-3 with two runs in the seventh.

Hartford threatened in the ninth, but could not plate the winning run as Stony Brook reliever Kris Bakey fanned two straight batters with runners at first and second to close the inning.

The Seawolves scored the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly from Chris DiBiaso in the top of the tenth. Isidro Fortuna led the way offensively going 4-for-5 with four singles and an RBI.

Bakey (2-4) earned the win for the Seawolves in three strong innings of relief. He did not allow an earned run and held Hartford to just one hit while striking out three over the final three innings. Starter Tom Koehler allowed one run while scattering eight hits with six strikeouts over six innings.

In Game 2, Hartford sophomore righthander Jason Krajeski (3-1) threw a one-hit complete game shutout as Stony Brook's lone hit came in the second inning when DiBiaso hit a bloop single to shallow centerfield that eluded the dive of Hartford outfielder Mike Cicchetti.

The Hawks took advantage of a first-inning infield error and rallied for two runs with two outs on Ryan Crowley's two-run single down the left field line.

Jon Lewis (4-3) was the tough luck loser in as he also went the distance and held Hartford to two unearned runs on five hits while striking out nine over six innings.

Hartford and Stony Brook will wrap up the three-game series with a single, nine-inning contest on Monday, May 2 at Muzzy Field beginning at noon.
