Baseball Unloads on Hartford 15-3

Bristol, Conn. - The Stony Brook baseball team pounded out 17 hits en route to a 15-3 dismantling of Hartford in the third and final game of a three-game series at Muzzy Field on Monday afternoon. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 18-22 overall while evening their conference record at 6-6. Hartford drops to 6-20 overall, 3-9 in the America East.

The Seawolves jumped on the board early with five runs on five hits in the top of the first and never looked back on their way to a 12-run win. Stony Brook tacked on three more runs in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to extend its lead to 13-3 after four innings of play. Chris DiBiaso, Tom Pennino, Matt Devins and Andrew Larsen each had hits that drove in two runs apiece during the stretch.

Brian Murtagh (4-4) threw five solid innings to earn the win for Stony Brook. He held the Hawks to three runs on five hits while striking out three, while relievers Kris Bakey, Matt Restivo and Matt Lyons held Hartford hitless over the final four innings.

The foursome of Larsen, Devins, DiBiaso and Pennino all had three hits apiece to lead Stony Brook's 17-hit attack. Larsen doubled twice for his 20th and 21st two baggers of the season to set the single season doubles record at Stony Brook.

The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Marist to take on the Red Foxes in a non-conference matchup at 3:30 p.m.
