Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stephen Didsbury and Matt Devins' back-to-back singles capped a dramatic five-run ninth inning rally as the Seawolves pulled out a 10-9 victory in Game 2 of a doubleheader with Northeastern Saturday afternoon at University Field. The Seawolves dropped the opener 4-2 in 10 innings and finish the year with a 23-28 record, 10-11 in America East play, while Northeastern clinched the regular season conference title with a record of 25-21, 14-6 in the league.

In the nightcap, Matt Devins RBI single capped a five-run ninth inning as the Seawolves came back to defeat Northeastern 10-9. One batter earlier, Stephen Didsbury's two-run single up the middle tied up the ballgame as the Seawolves put together five hits, two walks and a hit batter in the inning. It looked grim for the Seawolves heading into the inning as Northeastern's Chris Emanuele smoked his second home run of the day, a grand slam, to break open a 3-3 tie in a five-run sixth inning as Northeastern went up 8-3. The Seawolves chipped away at the lead with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings before exploding in the ninth.

Senior Jeff Casagrande (1-0) pitched two innings to picked up his first collegiate win while Devins went 3-for-6 with an RBI and Didsbury, Robert Leonard and Jon Pasieka drove in two runs apiece.

Northeastern scored a run in the first and a pair in the second to take a 3-0 lead before the Seawolves got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, plating a run on an RBI single by Robert Leonard. The score remained 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth when the Seawolves scored a pair of runs to tie the game at three. Matt Devins highlighted the scoring with an RBI double to score Jon Pasieka who led off the inning with a single. One batter later, Peter Milani tied the game with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.

In Game 1, Northeastern loaded the bases with one out in the top of the tenth and scored the first of two runs in the frame on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat Dan Milano as he beat out a double play ball. Brian Nutting followed with an RBI single to put Northeastern on top 4-2 and Tim Bush came in to set the Seawolves down in order in the bottom of the inning for his fifth save.

Northeastern wasted no time getting on the board as Emanuele took Brian Murtagh's first pitch of the game over the left field wall for a home run to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The Seawolves tied the ballgame up in the bottom of inning as Andrew Larsen led of the frame with a double, advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Sipp and came home to score on a single by Devins.

Stony Brook added a run in second inning to take a 2-1 lead as Didsbury led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Northeastern starter Devin Monds. The score would remain that way until the top of the fifth when Northeastern scored an unearned run to tie the game at two apiece. Tim Bush walked and advanced all the way to third when Chris Sipp's errant throw to second base on a double play ball went into left field. He scored one batter later on a fielder's choice off the bat of catcher Matt Morizio.

Morizio (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first win of the season while Kris Bakey (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven in 6.2 innings of work. Larsen and Didsbury each posted two hits and scored a run to lead the Seawolves offensively.

Six seniors, Will Brumfield, Jon Lewis, Nick Theoharis, Casagrande, Devins and Larsen concluded their Stony Brook careers.
