May 4, 2005

Game 1
Game 2

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Hofstra swept a doubleheader from Stony Brook, earning a 5-4 victory in Game 1 and a 3-2 win in 12 innings in Game 2. With the losses, the Seawolves fall to 19-33 on the season, while the Pride improves to 35-14-1.

In the opener, Hofstra jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Tara Ulrich. The Seawolves tied it up in the bottom of the second on a solo shot to left centerfield by Suzanne Turek.

Lisa Wambold smacked a solo homer to put the Pride back up 2-1 in the third, but SB answered back to tie the game at two when Laura Bradford singled, stole second and scored on a single up the middle by Kristen Brust.

Stefanie Kenney's two-run shot in the fourth made it 4-2 Hofstra, but the Seawolves rallied once again on a two-run homer by Jane Stein to tie the game at four after five innings.

The Pride went back on top in the seventh as Ashley Lane smacked a solo home run to right center to make it 5-4. Hofstra starter Adrienne Clark set the Seawolves down in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Sarah Hoffman (10-13) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. Clark (10-8) picked up the win, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings.

In the nightcap, the Pride took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a lead off solo home run by Kristen Galeone. Hofstra starter Callie Osborne was cruising along, allowing just two hits through five innings, before Hayley Durham led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to left center to tie the game at one run a piece. It was Durham's 16th of the season, which set a new single-season program record, and was the first home run surrendered by Osborne since opening day vs. Stanford on February 19.

The game went on to extra innings, with Hofstra finally breaking through in the top of the 12th when Galeone singled and later scored on an RBI single by Wambold to take a 2-1 lead. Ashley Lane followed with a single to center to score Wambold and make it 3-1. The Seawolves battled back, pulling within one when Ashley Westphal scored on a fielder's choice by Brust, but Durham popped up to end the game.

Angela Andrews (5-19) took the loss after allowing three runs on 12 hits while striking out eight and walking one. Amy Belonick (4-0) came on in the eighth and allowed one run on one hit while striking out three to earn the victory. Osborne went seven innings, surrendering one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking three.

The game served as senior day for graduating seniors Brust, Colleen McCarthy, Marissa Servello and Stein, who were all honored in a pregame ceremony.

The Seawolves close out their regular season with a three-game America East series at Maine this weekend.
