Matt Devins Named Second Team All-Northeast Region

June 27, 2005

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Matt Devins was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Rawlings 2005 Northeast Region second team as announced by the ABCA on Monday afternoon. It is the second straight season that Seawolves have had a player picked to the team, as Andrew Larsen earned the honor in 2004.

Devins, a senior shortstop, earned first team All-America East honors this year after taking home second team recognition his first three seasons at the Brook. Devins hit .357 in 2005 and ranked in the top-10 in the conference in eight offensive categories, including batting average, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage.

A 34th round selection by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in this year's MLB Draft, Devins is currently playing shortstop for the Princeton Devil Rays of the Appalachian League.

The Northeast Region encompasses 42 Division I schools. The 42 coaches nominate their players for all-region recognition and then vote to select a first and second team All-Northeast Region.
