Joe Nathan Named to American League All-Star Team

July 5, 2005

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Minnesota Twins closer and former Stony Brook standout Joe Nathan received his second consecutive invitation to the American League All-Star Team, as announced by Major League Baseball over 4th of July weekend. The right-hander was named to the American League roster as it takes on the National League in the 76th All-Star game on July 12 at Detroit's Comerica Park.

Nathan has been dominant in his second season as the Twins' closer, owning the AL lead with 23 saves in 25 chances in 2005. He has converted his last 10 save opportunities in a row while posting a 1-3 recod with a 3.57 ERA in 37 appearances this season. In addition, Nathan has struck out 43 batters in 35 1/3 innings.

"This time, it will be nice because I'll have my [baby] son there," Nathan said. "He's not going to know it, but it will still be nice for me to have him there and go through the experience with him."
