Former Stony Brook baseball player Jon Lewis will continue his professional career closer to home as he was promoted to the Florida Marlins' Short Season Class A affiliate in the New York-Penn League over 4th of July weekend. The 16th round draft pick will pitch for the Jamestown Jammers after beginning his professional career in Rookie ball with the GCL Marlins.
Lewis, a native of Queens, N.Y.. made his Jammers debut on Tuesday night, striking out three batters in two innings of work out of the bullpen. The righthander allowed two runs on two hits and a walk and did not factor in the decision.
Lewis, Stony Brook's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched, went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in four outings with the Marlins' Rookie team in the Gulf Coast League prior to his promotion.
