STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Freshman Matt Weeks kicked a 18-yard field goeal with 4.3 seconds remaining to give Stony Brook a 21-18 win over Bucknell in its season opener Saturday.
Rod Williams had 26 carries for 128 yards and three touchdowns for the Seawolves (1-0). The victory was the 100th for Stony Brook coach Sam Kornhauser, who is stepping down after 22 seasons at the end of the year.
Williams had two scores in the first quarter on runs of 9 yards at 14:16 and 16 yards at 9:10 to give the Seawovles a 12-0 lead.
Maddi Woodard's 1-yard run got the Bisons (0-2) to within 12-7 at 12:15 of the second, but Williams ran in a score from the 4-yard line with 5:13 to boost the advantage to 18-7. Ryan Walsh's 2-yard run and Ryan Ahern's 2-point conversion on a pass to Josh DeStafanio got the Bison to 18-15.
Ryan Korn's 23 yard field goal at 7:20 of the fourth even the game at 18.
