Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Josh Dudash was named NEC Offensive Player of the Week and Cory Giddings grabbed Rookie of the Week honors, the NEC announced Monday. Dudash torched St. Francis (PA) for 314 yards and two scores while Giddings made two big defensive plays in Stony Brook's 30-20 win on Saturday that extended its winning streak to three games. The Seawolves (3-4, 3-0) are 3-0 in conference play for the first time since joining the NEC and now sit atop the standings along with Robert Morris.
Dudash was outstanding in Stony Brook's 30-20 win over St. Francis (PA) on Saturday that gave the Seawolves three-straight wins and a tie for first place with Robert Morris in the league standings. The junior signal caller completed an astounding 22 of 27 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns. The Beachwood, N.J. native's two passing scores were from long distance, connecting with Dwayne Eley on a 34-yarder in the second quarter and Lynell Suggs on a 40-yarder in the fourth quarter. With the announcement, Dudash earns his third career NEC Offensive Player of the Week award and first this season. On the season, Dudash has completed 63.0 percent (92-146) of his attempts, while throwing six touchdowns and no interceptions.
Giddings was again at the center of big plays by the Stony Brook defense on Saturday. After the Red Flash climbed within 14-6, Giddings recovered a blocked PAT and raced 85 yards for the unusual defensive PAT conversion to give Stony Brook a 16-6 lead at halftime. With SBU holding a 16-13 lead in the third quarter and St. Francis driving for the go-ahead score, Giddings intercepted an Anthony Doria pass in the end zone to thwart the drive. The Seawolves would score on the ensuing possession and go on to win. The freshman defensive back also collected eight tackles in the victory.
For Giddings, it marks the second straight week that he has collected top rookie honors and the third straight overall for the Seawolves. Conte Cuttino was named Rookie of the Week back on October 2.
Stony Brook is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Sacred Heart. Kick-off is 1 p.m.
