Albany, N.Y. -
Albany scored 51 points in the second half to blow open a close game en route to an 85-62 win in America East men's basketball action on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Seawolves to 4-16 overall, 2-8 in conference play while Albany improved to 13-8, 8-2.
"I am very disappointed in our effort tonight," said head coach Steve Pikiell. "We did not play Stony Brook basketball for 40 minutes and it showed in the end result."
Stony Brook trailed 34-30 at the break, but Albany roared out of the locker room with a 10-2 run capped by a Jamar Wilson 3-pointer with 15:13 to play. It was one four 3's for Wilson, who finished with a game-high 23 points, and one of 11 treys that the Great Danes converted on the evening.
The Seawolves tried to stay close on a pair of baskets by Anthony Noble but a 13-4 spurt extended the Great Danes lead to 61-40. Stony Brook would get no closer than 19 points the rest of the way. Albany shot 57 percent from the field and were 11 of 22 from three-point range.
Tre Cunningham led all Stony Brook scorers with 15 points while Solomon Bamiro added 12.
The Seawolves are back in action on February 8 when they travel to Vermont. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
