The Seawolves pitching staff held the Central Florida team to only four hits, but it wasn't enough as Stony Brook fell 1-0 in its season opener. The Golden Knights improve to 2-5 on the season, and Stony Brook is 0-1.
Chadd Hartman drove in the game's only run on a fielder's choice in the eighth inning to score freshman pinch hitter Ryan Williams from third base. Isidro Fortuna and Steve Legrett were the only two Seawolves to record base hits.
Marc Brown shouldered the loss for Stony Brook, throwing two-thirds of an inning and allowing one run. Kris Bakey got the starting nod for the Seawolves, and lasted six innings, allowing only three hits and striking out 3. Brian Brooks picked up the win for UCF, throwing two shutout innings in relief.
The two teams will play game two of the three-game series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
