Baseball Swept By Central Florida

Orlando, Fla. - Central Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete a three-game sweep of the Stony Brook baseball team. The loss drops the Seawolves to 0-3 on the season and UCF improves to 4-5.

Stony Brook opened up the scoring in the first inning. Steven Mazzurco delivered an RBI single with one out to score Chris Sipp from second base. They would tack on another run in the third inning when Isidro Fortuna, who reached base with a triple, scored on a Robert Dyer ground ball.

Central Florida responded in the bottom of the fourth, when a Seawolves error opened up a three-run inning. Bryan Bennet capped off the inning with an RBI single, giving the Golden Knights the 3-2 lead.

The Seawolves reclaimed the lead in the seventh, when Sipp delivered an RBI fielder's choice to score Michael Tansey who led off the frame with a triple. Following a Central Florida error, Dyer ripped a single through the right-side to score Sipp from second.

The Golden Knights responded in the bottom half of the inning, when Vinny Cucci singled in Bryan Bennet and later scored the game-winning run off of a Matt Horwath sacrifice bunt.

Matt Restivo yielded only five hits in 5.0 innings of work for Stony Brook, allowing three runs, zero earned, and striking out three. Robert Leonard (0-1) threw two innings and allowed two runs in the loss. Jerry Thorne (1-0) picked up the win for UCF, allowing one unearned run in 1.2 innings of work. Dominic Petracca picked up his fourth save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Fortuna led the Seawolves, going four-for-five at the plate with a run scored. Dyer drove in two for Stony Brook and Sipp scored two runs.

Ryan Bono led the way for the Golden Knights, recording three hits, driving in a run and scoring one in four at bats.

The Seawolves return to action when they travel to take on East Carolina for a three-game set beginning on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
